And also my first post :-)
I've been into Motorcycles for the past 20 odd years, mainly Italian with the odd jap bike thrown in when needs must.
I gave up this year after selling my Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport in June, always fancied an Alfa at some point, my boss had an Alfetta 2.0 years ago & a m8 who's recently moved to Ireland a early GTV & 1.7 clover leaf 33. So I suppose they help to instill the idea into my head
First Choice was a 2.0 - 3.0 ltr GTV but the wife put a stop to that as there's only room for two & there's three of us
, so we started looking at the 156, but which one ?, as we needed a car for occasional towing work in future this ruled out the 2.5 V6 ( Thirst & group 17 insurance),we found two for sale at a local dealers, a 1.8 TS & 2.0TS Selespeed, both W reg the 1.8 being the base model with low miles, alfa 16" alloys, sunroof & met grey paint the Selespeed being Alfa red with full Toy Box & leather seats, the wife liked the 1.8 but my heart was drawn to the red selespeed, unfortunely I looked for some information about the selespeed & dropped in to the Yahoo Groups Alfa Selespeed owners forum, 30 mins later I decided that there's no way I'm getting involved with semi-auto alfas at any cost, definely a car for people with full wallets that one.( No offence)
Spent another week scouring the ads in Autotrader, & found a W reg 2.4 JTD, went to view it but it was due for a cambelt & the wife hates red, even the met burgandy this one cam in, plus he wasn't too keen on trading the wifes car against it, took the dozy pillock a week to ring us with the intention of doing a deal, by which time we had found another closer to home
Went back to the garage we had seen the firt two with the intentions of buying the 1.8TS, only to find that both had been sold eek! , but they had another for sale 25,000 miles full toy box, leather seats, wood dash & steering wheel, rear spoiler, alloys, skirts & probably one of the sport packs, looked around it, had some very minor paint damage & the odd chip on the bonnet, not to concerned about this as my eldest works in a Car Body Shop wink , the wife loved the interior, but I was a bit concerned about the car when the seller said it had had ONE LADY OWNER, but thought what hell, we'll have it.
The next day & after a sleepless night, something about this car was worrying me, mainly the One Lady Owner bit, it just didn't add up, this was a blokes car, girlys don't got for spoilers, got a phone call from the dealer the next day saying the had made a mistake & the actual mileage was 42,000 not 25,000 as they had stated, said he would knock £200.00 off the price, & I told him to stick it
, & sent the wife out the next day to recover my large deposit. He wasn't happy, I was
Finally we found the Car we both liked, a 2001 Metallic Silver 1.8TS Genuine Low Miles 22k( Still has the Original Fitment Tyres Goodyear Touring, Yuck !) 15" alloys, Aircon, CD player, one lady owner, white faced dials lovelly..........SOLD
Pick it up tomorrow or friday carn't wait
