Engine Oil - Update

Hey all, just wondering what engine oil everyone is using and how everyone's going with it?

Most of you would have done a few engine oil changes by now. I have done it twice so far (20,000km).

My car when I first bought it was a heavy oil drinker. But since the very 1st oil change at 10,000km the car has never drunk any oil at all .

I am so confident I feel like I have no need at all to check my oil which is the way it is with Japanese cars (I owned a Toyota Celica for 7 years and never checked the oil once the car was a workhorse!).

My dealer uses Castrol fully synthetic. An Alfa specialist in Sydney recently tried to sell me hard on Selenia Racing oil. I noticed that A) It's very expensive. And B) It's hard to get!!!! They are the official suppliers and they were out of stock until next month! Scary I think?!

I'd like to know how everyone's going with their oils, and whether or not people still have thirsty cars after all this time. Since my car is not drinking anymore I am scared of changing brands of oils. Any advice?

I use Castrol RS 10W60 (Selenia Racing is also 10W60).

I have very low oil consumption but still check the oil at least once a week.

You should also continue to check your oil once a week, even though your car has low usage too.

I use Selenia 10w60 in my GTA (its the recommended grade). Its done 7500miles now, and did use oil a bit at first. It has since slowed right down. I think Ive put 2litres in in 7500miles, which isnt too bad, especially considering it used about 1 litre in the first 2k or so!

I was using Selenia Racing 10W-60, but have switched to RedLine 10W-40 since our temperature is quite consistent all year long. Selenia is also quite expensive and difficult to find.

I use the same stuff as Banflu, but I find that the 2litre can be very unpredictable in its oil consumption. In 30,000k's (8 months)I'v used about 4.5litres for topping up.

My Alfa 147 has had 2 oil changes in 17,000 kms. Both using Castrol RS 10W60.
Currently uses about a litre every 5000 kms

I was using Mobil1 5w-50 fully synthetic and my oil consumption was 1L/3000km. Now i am using Castrol RS 10w-60 and i have made 1500km without oil consumption. Sound promising

All the best
