Replacing broken steering pump pipe - Part No.!
I have an annoying problem!
A steering pump pipe has gone, fairly catastrophically and fairly suddenly - fluid p*sses out at a fast drip. The steering was making a big noise but I managed to get to my destination and a quick top up from a helpful individual took all the nasty noise away - good, it seems no permanent damage.
However, I was a long way from my preferred usual specialist (Jamie Porter), certainly too far to drive. A couple of people recommended a garage a mile away which specialises in Italian cars, they had a few Alfas there as I pulled in. I left it with him and the next day he confirmed that an aluminium pipe had gone and he ordered a new one.
Fast forward to FOUR days on! He's twice been sent the wrong part and he is considering getting a part fabricated by a small engineering shop he uses. What's going on? Is it really that difficult to get the part? How many pipes is it likely to be, is it normally a particular pipe that goes and why can't he get hold of one?
The car is a 55 reg 1.9JTD Sport. HELP!
