I got my wheel guards rolled!

Hey everyone. I just thought I'd share my latest mod with you all.

Since lowering my car to the max with my adjustable KW coilovers I've been facing some tough dillemas.

A) I love the look of my slammed 147
B) BUT I can't drive it anywhere near as hard as I used to. When I throw it really hard into long sweeping corners the rear tyres scrape against the wheel arches.

So I did a little bit of research online and found that many people with Japanese cars with 20inch wheels "roll their guards".

Turns out there's a lip of sheet metal under your wheel arches. It's probably about 1/2cm deep. I took my car to a specialist (Australias best tyre and wheel service out west) and they took off the rear wheels, place a lip rolling tool onto the wheel and bent back my guards. There is no difference at all from the outside, but if you feel your way around the guard it's perfectly flat, folded back.

It cost me $150 so I wasn't too worried if it worked or not, but late last night I threw the car into some hard corners in my local area where I know the tyres were scraping before and guess what? Tyhey no longer scrape on anything! WHOOT! I'm pretty happy about this little mod... very happy as my dillema about low and no go is now resolved!

The shop also had some great shadow chromed Ferrari styled 5 star 18x8inch wheels. Wow they looked so big. I can't believe how much bigger 18inch is than 17inch GTA wheels. I was so tempted to buy them, they'd make my car look so damn hot but 8inch wide is just too damn wide and the wheel didn't come in 18x7.5. Oh well, bugger I say, that's another story!

Justin do u have a GTA wheels on a 147??? Post some pics dude. I was thinking of putting the GTA wheels on my 156, but theyre 10mm wider, and would stick out of the guards i was told.

Also b careful now with ur rolled guards that the alloys dont bump against the lip. My friend rolled the guards on her 330Ci convertible to get 20" BBS CHs underneath, but over time as the wheel bumped the guard lip, it started to crack the paint beneath the clear coat. Very messy stuff.
