My Timing belt again, labout/parts cost?
Ok, having fun playing middleman between garage where car is and independent I bought it from who underwrites the warranty.
Basically, he's being cagey about paying out because he doesn't believe it could potentially run into thousands of pounds, quoting worst case that 'a refurbed cylinder head is only £400'.
Now, I'm not a mechanic, but worst case surely we're looking at two cylinder heads on the V6, plus new timing belt and tensioners. So that's gotta be nearly £900 in parts alone. Are there more parts likely to be needed?
Then the labour, I know it takes 5-7 hours to do a timing belt and tensioner swap, so how much extra labour is involved to replace the two cylinder heads aswell.
Would really appreciate some sort of ballpark breakdown of what's gonna be involved so that hopefully he'll wake up.
I'm stuck in that I can't authorise the garage to strip down and fully diagnose the extent of the problem till the dealer commit's, so need some argument to proove that a quote in terms of thousands isn't a rip off.
