My local independant is £25-30 an hour, which is less than half main dealer times. So a 4 hour 48,000 mile service or a 4 hour cam belt/tensioner/variator swap will cost you half the price for labour. Parts cost is probably about the same.
Some engine management issues can be solved by mobile guys. We had a VW Golf GTi at work which failed its MOT on emissions - they were off the clock. A guy came in a van with a lap top, and "talked to it" and reset all the fault codes.
Job done £70.
But, unless it is a real up to date Alfa only guy, they won't be able to cope with Selespeed software problems etc.....
