Hi, I have a 147 1.6 with 20k that's started making a knocking noise from the engine on startup from time to time. It's that expensive sounding knocking noise as if there's no oil and lasts about 2 seconds.
I've checked the oil level and that's ok.
I had the car serviced yesterday and they couldn't find a problem.
The knocking is becoming more frequent - probably 70% of the time now.
Any suggestions, or do I have a car that thinks it's a deisel?
Rick, if you ever decide to get out of printing, why not take a position in AR's service/parts department. JD Power ratings in this area will go through the roof and the 156 won't be the second to last car behind the Landrover Discovery
If it is not in warranty you would be better going to an independant specialist. They tend to be cheaper and look after you better. The variator is a £70 part, and you may want to do the cambelt and tensioners at the same time depending on how long you are keeping the car.
Where abouts are you in London??
