My Selespeed Woes
Been searching around loads, and found alot of useful info! However, I'd like to just ask and see if I'm missing anything glaringly obvious.
My problems started with the gear indicator flashing when in 5th gear. After travelling someway it would the stabilise. However, a couple of weeks later I noticed that it would sometimes miss 3rd. This seemed to also sort itself out, but then i lost all gears except 1st and 2nd.
At this point I replaced my battery with a Varta D15, to make sure that wasn't the problem, and also got me some selespeed oil. Checked the oil and noticed it was low. Topped it up, and ran a EOL calibration on alfadiag. At this point it wouldn't complete, presumably due to not being upto temp.
Took her for a nice run in only 1st and 2nd, to get everything upto temp. Wouldn't complete and failed with a 0x2 error. I kept trying, eventually it went through. Everything was fine for a day or so, then noticed that my nice expensive selespeed oil was now all over the road lol. Ran the pump etc and checked the level, slightly low, but not by much.
Eventually ended up with only 1st and 2nd again, and ended up destroying the bottom of my front bumper as i couldn't get reverse, and had to mount a kerb to get outta the road and caught the bumper on the way off!! Annoying to say the least!
Right, what have i done other than the above?
Checked the oil level - varies but generally stable
Oil Pressure - between 44 and 55 - however, pump reprimes after 2 gear shifts - normal? Pump is also on for about 10 - 15 seconds when first opening the door
Relays - checked and cleaned - seem fine
Connectors - all accessible connectors on the actualtor have been cleaned, including the big 20 pin under the maf
Clutch pin position - is at 28 mm - sometimes shows as 27.9?
Clutch speed sensor - is at 0 with engine running - although did once see it at 800 rpm when i was sat idleing in 1st. Glitch? the car wasn't pulling forwards, so i can't see it being able to be going that fast?
No obvious leaks anywhere in the system
After cleaning the connections and stuff today i managed to get my gears back, 5th still flashes, and sometimes it misses 3rd. I tried an EOL, again, at temp, and it errored out with a 0x3 error this time, and on all subsequent tries.
Anyone know what the different EOL error codes are, out of curiousity?
My thoughts at present are that its possibly the selector position sensor at the rear of the unit. I was looking for advice as to whether swaping the engagement and selection sensors over could give light to whats up? This seems an easy prospect, 2 screws and baring in mind that they are spring loaded right? Is there anything else to look out for?
My other thought is that possibly the finger retaining screw is not at the correct torque, so maybe slipping, as the selection is all vertical for 3/4/5/R? Where is this screw located? on the right side, close to the selection sensor? What is the procedure for replacement, make sure in first or neutral?
Could this be the swarf in the box issue? Do you lose alot of gearbox fluid taking the end plate off?
The poor thing is a 2001 156 selespeed, thought built pre sept 2000, so a CF2.
