Water Pump & Belt
Bought my 147JTDm 6 weeks ago; 20k miles, 55 reg, no service history (ex hire). Have been worried about the amount of smoke when I boot it.
This week it started losing coolant; couldn't see a leak so topped it up and drove v carefully, with one eye on temp gauge, intending to sort it this weekend.
Inevitable happened - last night I got clouds of steam, fluid dropped, temp gauge went up, then down, then stabilised.
Breakdown man said 'coolant leak around casing, suspect waterpump'. Then he took off the belt cover to find it wasn't fitted propery - not fully in, so belt was wearing/melting a groove in case and, in his opinion, about to fail!
Feeling a bit f***ed on this one, to be honest. Love the car but wonder if I've been sold a pup by Car Giant.
Advice, anyone? I'm going to try Car Giant, obviously, but wonder if I'd be better simply taking it on the chin and getting it recovered to an Alfa specialist (near Twickenham, anyone?)
