I had a 05 plate 1.6 147. Last year Alfa suggested I get the cambelt changed. I went to a local Indie. He was cheaper. I asked about the water pump but he said it didn't need doing and a new one could go at any time.
Had only done 40K.
5 months later, whilst on holiday in Cornwall, my water pump failed, threw off the *new* cambelt, broke top engine. Emergency engine rebuild at vast expense.
All seemed fine once done but I got nervous about the car and traded it ... guess what, for another 147. Am I mad?
