Check your universal ball joint , by removing the gaiter first. I have exact same problem occur in last three days on my 156, on inspection found that water ingress under the boot had worn the balls - clearly visible once wiped clean, there is also a lot of play in the joint. I suspect one of the the faces has started to crumble metal on metal.
I replaced the wishbone this time last year and have stuck a big jemmy bar underneath with no play evident so I know it's not there.
Lift the wheel clear support the chassis well and spin the wheel by hand , also get someone to turn opposing locks for you (engine running) with the steering wheel and inspect and listen, pretty well sure you will identify the exact location this way, it might also jump slightly as you turn it if it's in the right spot.
