Re: I'm in need of a new car and some advice needed
Hi I looked at the car yesterday. The body is ok, there is a small dent in the passenger door where the door has been opened against something, there is some surface rust on the rear arch lip, small rust starting around the top of the windscreen, a strange mark on the top of the roof and some heavy corrosion on 2 of the alloys but is straight enough other wise. Prob not worth fixing. Engine is a peach. Very strong pull from tickover, it actually caught me by surprise when I first hopped in as the BMW had some lag. I checked the oil and got a scare, I thought there was none in it but when I touched the dipstick it was covered in lovely clear oil. There are no warning lights on or rattles or bangs and all the controls are nice and light. The front discs and pads were changed as well. The interior really needs a good clean, I was taken back a little by the poor quality plastics but there were no marks and the leather seats were very comfortable with no wear at all. A very nice drive but as I'm used to an absolutely immaculate car I'm not so sure. I think all the car really needs is a good detailed clean and polish as the paintwork was a little dull as if it has never seen wax. I got him talked down to £1700 from 2 grand. The car has 115K, needs tax and 4 new tyres in the next month or 2. Mot is up in June. He has receipts for the work that I mentioned previously but I'm now worried about the cam belt as he only had the belt replaced. I know from other cars that it is not wear and tear on the belt which makes it break but usually an aux drive fails or a pulley fails. What is needed to do a proper job on the cam belt? Also what about the money does it sound right? thanks for your replys.
