I do most of the things myself, although my brother is an Alfa mechanic, for more specialist jobs like belts which require special tools
I revert to my bro. Just recently I bought a winding tool to do the rear brakes (they are the originals from 10 years ago... so they by now the rotors have become a part of the hub .. I'm afraid) . Oil filter change of the 156 I perform from the top of the engine with a small flat container under the filter to catch escaping oil and a handy tool. The sump plug I take off without taking off the plastic cover, I have made a hole in the cover to get at the plug.
