Sorry, Twig, its obviously a manual - all Seles are 2.0....and Seles don't have cables....
Stiff gearchange on the 147 isn't unusual, and can usually be sorted by lubrication of the pivot at the gearbox end. Its possible, I guess that if you've been having to force the selection the cables could have been worn. Looking at Eper its a bit unclear - it says that there is only one cable - though there are obviously two - and its priced on my copy at about £54, though this may be out of date. So not sure whether you have to double that, or whether it comes as two cables at the one price.
Fitting involves dropping the exhaust and removing the heat shield plate that runs under the car to enable access to the gear lever...its not a 5 minute job, involving removal of some interior trim as well, so I don't suppose the labour charge is that bad....if anything I reckon your man's hourly rate is pretty good.......
