The car is now back to a driveable condition.
All forward gears & reverse gear are selectable, calibration completed successfully.
what was wrong:
It turns out that in transport from London to my home in Wexford the internal gear linkage had come loose & away from the 2 REAR sensors.
Unknown to me i fitted it last week & was getting P1741 & P1742 errors. Not knowing at that point what those error meant I left to go home [ 135 miles ] not a very happy person i have to admit.
Thanks to Derek at Alfadiag, Stoyce & Smaky for various bits of information I went back yesterday to remove the replacment actuator.
Sure enough the internal gear linkage was not operating the 2 sensors & so i re-aligned them. Took me 4 attempts to get it back on & during one of these attmepts, as i found out this morning, the High Gear selector slipped out of the piston that operates it.
That said last night we had FOUR forward gear & one VERY happy owner..... not so me... i was still unsur eof what was wrong & therefore not a happy person.
In fairness to the customer [ Mick ] he never hassled me & always encourage me to keep going & that HE wanted me to complete 'the project' as he called it. he had complete faith in my abilities.
So this morning, with a slight hang over form last nights drinking session, i decided just to remove the REAR plate in which the High/Low gear range piston resides.
Sure enough the selector was not linked into it.
hour & 1/2 later i had the car back together, claibrated & able to select any of the 6 gears required.
My spin home was very good, great weather, good music on Today FM & best of all know i had a happy customer with a now repaired selespeed .... & today is my daughters 10th birthday, i had ot ask her permission to stay away for the night as she had wanted me to be home to see her this morning before going to school
I KNEW today was going to be my luckly day
