Re: Bike Rack for GT
Tow bar (removable swan neck) and bike rack is the only way to go if you carry bikes a lot, its not cheap I paid nearly £400 fitted for the tow bar, but I already had a Atera 4 bike rack system (about £300) Yes it sounds like a lot of money and it is; but I use my rack 2 or 3 times a week although the maximum number of bikes I would put on the back of the GT is 3 which with kit in the back is about all the room taken up anyway.
Once loaded you really don't know its there when driving, except if you look in the mirror and you see even less!
It takes less than a minute to fit the removable and swan neck and less than that to put the Atera rack on, the Thule is a great rack but it does take longer to put on and off.
Don't worry about the bumper cut, its not visible as its on the underside, even if you took the towbar off you wouldn't see it unless the car was up on a ramp or you were lying underneath it.
If your going to keep the GT a while and you want to transport bikes its a worthy investment, I was talking to another GT owner recently who was using a strap on rack and he was less than happy, it had scratched his paintwork and bikes were not stable so was having to drive at a reduced speed, he was seriously considering changing the car but having seen my GT loaded up with 3 bikes he was gobsmacked and more so when I showed him how the Atera rack worked sliding away from the car to get into the boot.
Like your GT and serious about your biking? get a towbar and rack only way to go............ period !
