Having now owned my Alfa GT jtdm from new and from a main dealer in Cheshire, it's now sitting in their garage waiting to be repaired.
So had the car from new 55 plate currently with 60k, services at the right intervals and at the right time by the same dealer.
Jan 09, got the car booked in for the 60K service (actual mileage 56K). Warranty due to run out on the 20th Jan, so hence why it was done early then 60K. Full service done and some minor work done under warranty. Excellent service from the dealer and always very helpful with providing me with a car. I even asked about the cam belt and was told that they would do that at the 72K service, even got a price from them for the next service.
Collected the car on the 10th Jan and everything was good. Loved every single minute when driving even when stuck on the the M6, it didn't matter.
When driving to the office on 9th Feb the nightmare started, just getting into Chesterfield, it started to smoke in the cabin, pulled over and stopped the car. Did the normal things about looking at what the cause was. In the back of my mind it was the cam belt. So called the AA, they established that the cam belt had moved and there was no compression in the engine.
Had the car recovered to the dealer in Cheshire and they quickly told the AA guy that its probably the water pump. 3 days later the results were.
Water pump had failed
Cam belt damaged
Cam casing damaged,
injectors seized and as a result cylinder head damaged.
So the dealer has tried to get Alfa UK to look at the case with being just outside of the warranty cover. Alfa UK wanted nothing to do with it and would not entertain anything to help.
The dealer has tried everything but that's resulted in nothing apart for the bill of £3K.
End result. Even if you have your car services at the right intervals and you spend the time to look after it, if its out of the warranty then don't expect anything from Alfa UK.
I'm gutted, as friends and family said the standard things you get about Alfa cars, for the past 3 years I've proved them wrong until this year.
Would I have another, it will take allot to convince me to do it again.
Is there anything that I can do - thinking of writing to Alfa UK (Names welcome)
