Where is the clutch master cylinder on my GT???
For the past 12 months I have been having intermittent problems with the clutch pedal on my 04 V6 GT. The first time it happened I lost most of the resistance of the clutch pedal and the clutch would engage when the pedal was close to the floor. By the time I had driven home (about an hour) it was back to normal again.
This happened on and off for a while and then one day (at a most inconvenient time, many hours from home) I lost the clutch pedal completely. With no help available I had to attempt to shift gears using the old racing method (no clutch) to get home. many hours later and a damaged third gear syncro later I managed to get back home. The local brake & clutch specialist put a kit in the slave cylinder, bled the clutch and all seemed to be OK, even though the clutch did not feel right to me.
Anyhoo....to cut a long story a little shorter, the clutch problem has continued on and off. They seem to feel that the clutch master cylinder has a worn groove on the outside of the sleeve and this is letting air in and causing the problem. So, apparently I need to replace the clutch master cylinder because the sleeve is plastic so can't be repaired.
Now to the problem. Where is the clutch master cylinder??? The local Alfa dealer seems to think it is located just above the clutch pedal, inside the cabin, but they can't be sure this is correct. Their parts system calls it the clutch pump. It seems there is also a master cylinder attached to the engine block although I suspect this is the brake master cylinder. If it is indeed the clutch pump that I want then this is only around $270 aussie dollars but if it is the main master cylinder I need to replace then this is around $600 and needs to come from Italy (to australia).
Can anyone help me with the correct location of the clutch master cylinder?
