This may have been asked before (sorry!):

Can the variator be replaced without removing the cambelt & tensioners? I just called two garages and one said I have to have a cambelt replacement too and the other didnt comment so I assume they were either going to remove & replace the same belt to get access to the variator?

Previous owner should have changed the variator at the same time as the last cambelt change  so I'm stuck with a car that doesnt need a new belt yet but does need a variator!

I dont know, I bought the car at 50k. Would have to check the history to get the date of the belt replacement.

Not sure how bad the variator is exactly, its fairly noisy and diesel sounding.

Its going for a service next week so the oil will be done so I'll see what its like after that.

It was really just to determine which garage to go to for the service as one was seemingly saying different from the other on the variator issue.

Okay, cheers. It might be nearly due then anyway!

Cheers Smaky, it was done around 36k and the date will be in my service history (I'll check when I get home).

Where abouts in Wiltshire are you? Whats your price for cam belt & tensioners + variator?

About £80 for part. Not sure where to get online.
