This is what I did:
What's the best way to break in an engine?? The short answer: Run it hard!!!
I drove my bella kind of the way you explain up here. Result....Hardly any oil usage.
A nice quiet, smooth and fast engine.
Keep in mind a few rules.
Let the engine get warm!! (DUH!?!)
It's not your mama.
And you can show you have a sporty car.
So yes! The first 500km's: up to 2000/2500 Giri
up to 1000km's: bring it up to 3000/3500 Giri
up to 1500km's: drive her.
And once the engine is warm and you are on the free way, drive fast and slow. Up and down.
So 120 km/hr then 140 km/hr then 100 km/hr then up to 160 km/hr again etc.
The explanation is simple.
Like Nem said: the engine already made like 1000km in the factory. So it is "breaked in". But without "pressure"/resistance for that matter.
But the cylinder, springs/camshafts etc. only get breaked in when the get pressure/resistance. So by slowing down and pulling up, the springs get presurized and the extend fully against the walls of the cylinder. Giving you a perfect sealed chamber, with full effect, no leakage, no oil leakage etc.
So bring it on.
That's how I did it, and it works perfect. No problems at all, hardly any oil usage. I am up to 18000 km now and I used +/- 1 liter oil so far.(I filled her once with half a liter, and so did the garage) and I have 1 mark down on my display...
So I say: Do it.
P.s. read the article I added for a more detailed explenation.
