Re: strange light fault
I had this problem when i got my 156 jtd.
I found the price of a new tacho and after picking myself up off the floor dismantled it and changed the faulty chip, they are from rs components and are about £2.50 each.
I have recently found my battery going flat again and upon further investigation found the other side was faulty, even though the lamps were not lit. There was a constant drain on the battery of just over 300 mA, enough to drain it when its only a weekend toy!
Apart again and changed the other chip, its marked as VND810M , rs number 445 715 if anyones interested!
They are bloody awkward to solder though, be carefull of damaging the tracks on the pcb removing the old one.
All good now, but why do they go faulty, is it bad design that has been changed on later ones as it doesn't seem to be an issue on later cars?
