light metalic sound, like a metal fan rubbing against metal
My 156 2l ts sele developed a light metalic sound, a bit like a metal bladed fan rubbing against it's guard really lightly - quite noticeable in the cabin, and rises with the revs.
I opened the hood, and the sound is coming from the left side of the engine, where all the belts are (covered). reversed the car back into my drive and called the AA (I've learned to do this at the slightest hint of a @bad@ sound)
The guy the AA sent said it was the head gasket, but on the phone to HQ to get authorisation to tow the car he said it was the cam belt.
I didn't notice any extra smoke from the exhaust, but as you all know, it's been a little cold recently.
anyone know what it may be?
I first thought I heard the sound a while after I had to drive through quite a deep puddle (more of a stream actually) accross the road, could this be connected? - the sound did not manifest itself until several days later though
