Just been working on car. Taken off the selection sensor but it still returns a fault should this be the case if the selector shaft is jammed or should the position of the sensor be in a particular place to reset? This is driving me mad does anyone know of this fault? or direct me to some one near Chester that can deal with this fault, don't trust the stealer's
The sensor is fixed in one position.
When you fit it , it should naturaly want to sit slightly clockwise from the bolt holes. You then need to twist it (gently with not much resistance) until the bolt holes line up.
Also, thers a long pin under the ally plate the sensor bolts to, which locates to the selector plunger. If you've removed the plate with the sensor, theres a good chance its not sat in the right place.
You could swap the sensor with the one from the back of the unit, and see if you get the same results.
It would be good if you could eliminate the gearbox.
Have you removed the speed sensor for the gearbox? Its a 22mm AF brass unit at the front of the box, brownish coloured connector cap.
Take it out and have a look at the end of the long brass sensor. It should be flat brass cap.
If its mangled, you gearbox is damaged.
If you could remove the actuator, you then have access to the selector shaft, then you could manualy check it goes into every gear.
