Re: Alfa 147 Excessive Oil Consumption
The Oil Seprator as KKrisss suggested may be a possibilty. I would have thought if there was a leak in the sump (of that magnitude) I would have a large patch of oil on my drive - there is not even a spot! I will take a good look though at the weekend with a torch.
I agree that using that much oil beggers belief as to how it is still running, however it is not just running, it is absolutely spot on. It is quiet, smooth and accelerates great and incidentally the temp runs at around 70deg, which seems about right at this time of year when mobile. The spark plugs must be fine as well as it runs great and starts instantly even in freezing conditions.
I checked the service book and it did have a head gasket change and what looks like cylinder repairs (hard to read the handwriting) when the cambelt was changed (6000miles ago). Does anyone think they could have left a gasket out or misplaced one or something?
Even with this I would have expected a good smell of burning oil from the engine or exhaust.
It has me puzzled??
