It depends on your own situation and how risky you find it.
My car is garaged and the garage is alarmed and has a video link to the house. At work my office backs onto the car park and my parking space is directly under my office window. If we go into town or to the supermarket we take the Skoda.
A little paranoid perhaps but my last cars have been of the Cosworth and Impreza variety so it semms sort of natural to me now.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to pay double insurance next year. It would still be cheaper than I was paying for the scoob.
On the other hand I would never tell anyone that main car insurance isn't worth it, you are insuring perhaps £20000 for your car £????? for someone elses if you hit them and then bung on personal injury and legal costs and a cliam could run into hundres of thousands.
I always take out extended warranties as well. A blown engine could cost thousands.
But for me spending £80 to insure against loosing perhaps £600 is a risk I can take.
Even if you have protected NCB and claim your premium still goes up because they load your premium for having the claim.
. Insurance sting you anyway they can.
My policy is also cheaper with my wife on it than it is with just myself. I read somewhere that the insurance companies think you are more responsible with a spouse and also women are considered a lower risk so if she is sharing the milage the car is at less risk.
Lorraine doesn't drive my car but is on the policy to get it cheaper and as a just in case precaution.
