Can anyone help diagnose a potential problem I noticed last night with my 1.9JTDM GT Blackline? I seem to be getting a moderate juddering/vibration through the entire car (you feel it through the seat rather than the wheel) under acceleration, more noticably in high gears (5 and 6).
The judder appears to be linked to the transmission, as it only appears when I accelerate. Under breaking, or if I lift-off the car is completely smooth. However, it doesn't matter what revs I'm doing in 5th or 6th, as soon as I accelerate theres a juddering that's severe enough to notice even with the stereo on loud. The gear knob feels to vibrate and match the judder too which suggests to me it's transmission based but I'm not sure what exactly?
The gear nob has always vibrated since I had the car, which I didn't think was unusual, but when you feel the judder it moves more noticably.
It may be a coincidence by the clutch appears to feel as if there are two "lumps" or points of resistance as you depress it. I noticed this a few weeks ago but it comes and goes, and there wasn't any other symptom at the time so I have ignored it, but now this judder has appeared I'm thinking maybe the two are related? It's hard to describe, but when you depress the pedal you can feel two points where you almost have to push harder. You can only feel this on the way down.
Back to the juddering... You don't really notice it in lower gears/pulling away etc, but in 6th on the motorway - going up a hill for example - the whole car is shaking quite noticably. I thought maybe it was the road surface to begin with, but it's happening too often, and is definitely linked to when I put my toe down.
In case anyone is thinking I'm doing about 800rpm with my foot flat, thinking there's an odd judder I'm not - this judder occurs well in to the power band, between 1,500 to 4,000 rpm and upwards.
Has anyone got any suggestions? The car is still under warranty so I know the dealer is the best solution, but I live 2 hours drive from the nearest one so I want to be prepared before I commit myself to taking time off work and booking it in - and when I take it in I know sod's law says they won't find the fault. Do you have to pay for the labour costs associated with a waranty repair/diagnosis?
Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers
