OK, well we need to go deeper then, remove the coil packs and check for water oil down the plug holes, it may be a mifire, clean out the plug holes and check the coil packs for cracking or arcing damage, if you try a search there are images I've posted on this subject so you can see what you are looking for.
The other option is temperature related, is the engine geting up to 90'C within 5 minutes and staying there consistently as you drive round? If it's droping to below 70 as you drive round then you need a new thermostat, but that wouldn't have brought on the warning light.
The worst thought I have is that you've skiped a tooth on the belt and the timing is out, does it sound like a steam train when you boot it?
Most of all though you need to get the fault codes read, they will give us a hint as to where the problem is.
