2 litre petrol is the best alrounder IMO, in terms of performance handling and economy.
A Veloce/sportpacked equipped TS is also the best handling 156 apart from possibly the GTA.
Many veloce/sportpacked cars have leather too.
the 1.6 and 1.8 are not as torquey as the 2 litre but are similar on fuel as they need to be revved more.
The diesels are also good, but they cost extra to buy and you need to do a few miles to save the cost difference on fuel.
The Diesels also don't handle as well due to the heavier engine.
As for the V6, it is a great engine.. It looks sounds and goes well, but it is quite thirsty and like the diesels the heavier front end makes the handling a bit worse.
You really need a suspension upgrade to get the best out of a V6 as even the sportpacked versions are a bit floaty and underdamped.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
