So, it can be done. I've fitted an HID kit on my car, the first generation 156. Being a 10,000K HID kit, I think it's too bright for the small housing of a 156. It causes unwanted reflections and diffusion of beams.
Another Thai owner fitted a 6,000K HID kit onto his facelifted 156, and seems to work a little better as far as the beams.
Again, if there's a reflector (in the housing) in front of the bulb, it has to be removed, or your expensive HID bulb will short out if it touches the reflector. wink
