Alternatively if you want a more fixed solution:
Use very small flat bladed screwdriver to unclip the red wire in your head units harness and move it to the location of where the corresponding alfa orange wire was in the alfa socket.
The unit will then turn on & off with the ignition. I had to do this so the motorised front came down when i turned the car off.
My rear windows are seised too, will get round to fixing them one day. They do it from lack of use.
As for the knocking, try changing the drop links first as these can be easily changed (by yourself with an allen key & spanner). They make a hell of a racket when they are on their way out.
