GT 2.0JTS - a 159 Driver's opinion
I'm running around in a white GT courtesy car at the moment and I'm loving it. I like the chuckability and nimbleness, the ride is better than I expected, despite the 18" rims, and it's a comfortable place to be. The steering is direct and the car has tons of grip. I guess the latter is a function of the wide rubber, but it must be something else with the Q2 diff fitted.
I'd love to have one but I'm not sure I could live with it for a while. It's noisy and thirsty and that rattle from the rear would drive me up the wall over time (is this fixable?). I suspect the 1.9 is probably a bit mor erefined, because the boominess from the JTS at 60mph and above (well, it is turning well over 3,500 rpm) is so intrusive.
As for the engine itself, well it just reminds me of why I've gone over to diesel. The engine seems pretty gutless at low revs and its peakiness if shown by the surge of power at around 3,800 - 4,000 rpm before running out of steam at 5,500 or so. It's fun for a while to rev an engine like that but gets tiring after a bit.
All in all though I can understand why the GT owners like the car so much. A true Alfa.
