You all sound just like me 6months ago "diesels are rubbish" etc.
From my experience of owning a GT cloverleaf JTS and now a GT cloverleaf 1.9JTDm (170bhp) the diesel wins hands down.
I can actually comment on this as I have owned
both models. The diesel isn't just a hell of a lot more fun to drive, it's quicker (bear in mind I'm comparing this to a re-mapped JTS not a crappy 140bhp one) and handles better thanks to the Q2 (the diff is so much fun).
I know what you mean about the sound though, there is just no disguising the massey f noise when your outside the car
. But when your inside it actually, dare I say it, sounds quite good!! 2.5k revs at 90mph smooth as you like and far less 'boomy' than the JTS at the same speed. The power starts to drop at a little past 4k revs but nothing like what people are describing here, you have the thump of torque at low revs and then the power carries it through till the change.
I want my car to grip the road, be powerful and to look good, the JTS couldn't tick all those boxes. The JTDm (I haven't even had it re-mapped yet) does.
