(as my car was described in here when i got it!!!)
I had to go and pick my old 2ltr 147 (tuned a bit) and take it back to Autodelta to have the remap tweaked, and after 6 weeks in an awd rally rep,(which i know you all view as Bealzebubs spawn) I feel i can give the old girl an decent *review*.
Firstly,it still looks the part.Lowered with Supersports it really does it for me,just beautiful. And the interior, fantastic!!!!,after you get out of a Scoob you realise what the Italians are all about.Maybe a a natsarse off the quality of a VAG,but well screwed together. As for sqeaks, well drive a Scoob and then complain!
Handling,i forgot quickly just how sharp the turn in is,and well balanced the car feels.the car FORCES you to throw it into every roundabout and corner, and the throttle response is leaps ahead of a Golf.
Engine? well, what a lovely noise from under the bonnet, nothing better in its market.
Criticisms? Under powered for the weight, although i'm surfe the new 165 bhp will feel better, imo, and the biggest disappointment was the gear change.I always thought it was a bit rubbery with a long throw, and i now have a Prodrive quickshift which made the Alfa feel like an old bus.It really is an awfully long throw.A huge wooden spoon being moved through custard,i would say.
However,i dont regret having owned that car, still stirs the soul in a way that a German car can only dream of.
Compared to my old 1.8T the Alfa is leaps ahead where it matters, steering feel and handling. As a driver the Golf/Audis just can't compete, they are mind numbingly boring in comparison
Better than a Leon Cupra or Honda CTR? probably not,but i would have one over the other 2....................just
