62K miles or 5 years for the belt change, but the things to lok for are knocking noises in the footwells when going over little bumps in the road.

Re: 156 1.9jtd

the 1.9 JTD engine is pretty much bullet proof ... the only thing I've heard (and I think it applies to the 8v although I could be wrong) is that the water pumps can seize which cause the cambelt to snap ... so when you get the cambelt done ALWAYS get the waterpump done too ...

as smaky said, just check the usual stuff tyres, brakes, suspension creaking over bumps etc ... not huge things but you should be able to barter the price down a bit

Re: 156 1.9jtd

^^ I'm pretty sure the terminal waterpump event is a 16V thing ^^
.. but I had the pump and everything else in there changed as the most expensive bit of a CAM belt change was the labour to take it apart.

48K Miles is not far before the BIG service.. so price it accordingly

I have an '03 1.9JTD 8V (No, it's no longer for sale)
It has done 79K Miles with out letting me down.
Outside the correct service schedule it's had;

1 x Thermostat
1 x Crank Sensor
1 x Battery

Things that go wrong may include MAP & MAF Sensor(s), EGR valve, ARB and Wishbones and rear bushes - these all consumables on an 156.
If they've been done at anytime on the car your considering, it's a bonus.

best of luck

Re: 156 1.9jtd

I have an 03 1.9 JTD 8v as well, done just over 71,000 miles now and have just had the belts/tensioners/waterpump (supposedly does fail on the 8v) and front anti-roll bar changed - that cost £660 at an Alfa specialist. Only other things that it has had are new handbrake cables, new radiator/thermostat and a new battery - but these seem to go on all 156's and are worth checking.
