Gates Timing Belts
I use to check if cars have belts or chains and what the cambelt interval is.
Just before Xmas 2007 the cambelt jumped in my blandmobile.
The RAC man was excellent
He really brightened my evening.
So being towed to my local MoT garage we discussed cambelts jumping and camchains. He said that the camchain went noisy in his Transit and he had it replaced under warranty.
We also disussed the Nissan Primera eGT. I'm just taken with what Honest John says about that 2 litre camchain engine.
The blandmobile has a non-interference engine
It was £160 inc. for diagnosis and a new cambelt. It jumped as a bit of perished cambelt cover gasket ended up on the waterpump cog.
As is the MkIII Toyota Supra Turbo I think.
Some Celica's have belts, it's the same engine in the Carina, MR2 and Celica but with different heads on, and I guess therefore determines whether they're interference or non-interference.
Thanks for the mentions of the Saab camchain rattles, they still interest me having had an early morning tussle with one to Dover when I had my Uno Turbo. I like Turbos.
