Re: Big end gone, electric window/mirror faults, handbrake cable hanging off.
The guys who looked at the car are based in Ramsey; I trust them, they came highly reccomended.
The full list of problems are:
Radiator heavily corroded
slight timing variator noise from cold
oil leak around sump area
manifold heatshield adrift
engine knock - big end bearing noisy
another noise from suspension, unable to determine cause
nsr window irregular operation
electric mirrors inoperative upwards
ns handbrake cable adrift
This car was my dream combination, hence why I paid more for it than I should £2,990 (for Y reg). Alfa 156 Selespeed Sportwagon, black with red leather seats was the dream ticket.
Sadly, however, it's going back. Even apart from the stuff discovered today, there was noise from the front suspension.
The warranty should and probably would cover it. However, he (the trader) will probably get me to pay for transporting it to and from Kent.
What I'll say is that I'll have my money back, and you pick it up, or I drive it down, knacker the engine completely, and you give me my money back.
Shame as I really love this car, for all its faults. All the other Alfas on Autotrader are uninspiring, mainly all silver saloons, or ones with cloth interiors.
And at the end of it all, I'm back on the bus next week. All comes at the end of a pretty ****ty week, what with work hassles, the anniversary of the crash that killed the previous Alfa and now this.
Anyone think of a good reason why I SHOULDN'T send it back?
