Hmmm Timing belt

Hey all ... anyone remember me?

guess not

anyway, the 147 has done about 47,000 miles since 2001 (thats about 7.5 yrs). I had changed the timing belt and tensioners (not sure about the auxiliary belt) after 3.5 years.... so now its been a bit over 4 years. Its only done about 20,000 miles on this timing belt. The variator is sounding a bit knackered..

The question is this, should I change the timing belt or not? I'm quite nervous about it since I dont want it to go dead on me! But at the same time, a local mechanic (who loves Alfas, has a 156) has told me its a waste changing it after just 20,000 miles.

Any ideas guys? Is the cambelt known to go bust after 3 years, even if there is not much mileage going on?
Also, if i do change it, should I replace also the auxiliary belt and tensioners? Those will be a further 90 approx!

Thanks all

Patrick from sunny Malta (well, rainy actually! )

Re: Timing belt

3 years or 36,000 miles (assuming a 4 pot engine)

Re: Timing belt

Yes, by ARUK rules it's due now, well overdue actually. It's always worth doig the Aux stuff every other cambelt too.
