This is one for the technical guys here, if you can shed some light on this;
Do the 2.0 twin spark engines have a design fault with the design of they're oil gallery??
I ask because I have just destroyed No.3 big end on my Selespeed. I had to peel off the shells which were battered onto the journal.
I bought my selespeed a year ago & in the service book it states it's had a new head from Alfa approx 30k miles ago. This was due to cambelt failure.
As it was done at a dealer, I can assume they fitted new big ends at that time.
It has since been serviced regularly, and when I bought it, I fitted a new cambelt kit etc.
2 weeks ago, I checked the oil level, which was spot on, then continued on a slightly aggressive drive - as I was in the process of testing my Selespeed actuator which I had just repaired - I took the car just up to the rev limiter, changed gear, took it upto 6.5k rpm & lost power, heard a 'knocking' rattle.
I stopped imediately, but too late, the damagfe was done.
I also purchased another 2.0 156 recently, which has the same noise, so I assume the same damage?
I've seen alot of these on ebay with 'big ends gone', so i'm starting to think theres a design fault with them.
Anybody have any ideas, if it is a design fault, are there any mod's wew can do to help?
Thanks in advance
