Kristian, the first generation 156 had 'Sportpack' options where it comes with shorter springs (by 20mm) and different dampers than standard cars. I assume that this is the set of springs your dealer is talking about.
Now the dampers on Sportpack cars 'could' be shorter (the shaft) to prevent 'bottoming out' during suspension movement. When I changed my Sportpack dampers out, I noticed they have a different color marking than standard dampers.
So, once you've changed your springs, it is possible that your standard dampers may bottom out during extreme suspenion movement. Perhaps there are owners on the forum who've done so can confirm this. wink
