You're 100% right on the step forward in comparison to the 145. However, check out VW Golf's (I've driven three and I've never heard one rattle or squeek coming from the dashboard!), Audi A3's: the Alfa 147 just can't get close to the built quality of the germans imo.
The built quality of the 147 has definitely improved massively in comparison to the 145 and 146 (this is also one of the reasons why I opted for the Alfa 147 and not for ANOTHER german dull vehicle wink ), however rattles and squeeks are still features and not an option wink And this is really bad if you compare the high price of the Alfa 147 and it's competitors (VW Golf IV, Audi A3).
You're right in that ze germans are VERY DULL cars. But we're talking built quality here and Alfa isn't really doing that well in comparison to others imo. Alfa is improving, but comparing the built quality of a 156 or a 157 for that matter with a BMW 3 or Audi is just another joke to me imo.
