156 - rear wheel arches

Have any other 156 owners noticed how close the carpet-like material inside the rear wheel arches get to the actual tyres? Or is it just mine? Last year I had to call the AA out whilst driving in the middle of the night because they were actually touching the tyre - not only was it making an unpleasant noise but I suspected it might have been a little dangerous. The AA guy just pushed the carpet up as high as it could go, but in the last 12 months it seems to have slipped down again. Anyone experienced anything similar, or any info on a fix?

Welcome to AO!!
My 156 did exactly the same thing from delivery. The "carpet" is cut around the dampers in the wheel arch. I just shoved it backwards as far as it would go and it has been fine since (4,000 miles).
Very technical I know!!

Sort of comparing apples with oranges I know, but the same thing happens on my 166. It seems to be because the rear suspension wears out pretty quickly, and gets soft after not that many miles. When that happens, rear wheels hit this carpet more often - dragging it down. Happens more quickly with load in the boot or a trailer. I have recently replaced the rear springs/shocks, so far so good.
