YEA .......... DONE IT
Replaced the MAF that is. Lots of difficulty 'cos one of the nuts siezed on the stud which turned in the air filter house. Thought I might just swap the MAF from the new tube to the old but concerned that slotting the torx screws would not go down well with the part guarantee, if it's duff. The security torx screws being 5 point instead of the normal 6. Where to get a bit
What a job. Thanks to Pomeo for the info on where to get 5 point torx bits. Tried a couple of local Halfords but neither had them, though one confirmed they should be getting some.
However I persisted with the nut splitter obtained this morning and that eventually split the offending nut so's I cold get the tube out, only to drop the splitter onto the under tray and out of sight
Another job to drop that and recover the tool - derrr.
So, I got the new MAF in, tidied up whilst it sat ticking over for 15 min. Had lunch then took it out for a blast up some straight, empty lanes nearby. Now it will pull up to 5000rpm which I have not seen in a long time - and does it pull in 3rd and 4th !!
Still quite a bit of smoke though and a bit sluggish at low revs but much better overall. I think I will blank off the EGR again, on the exhaust inlet side this time, though it is more difficult to get to.
A run to Basingstoke and back on Tuesday next week should settle things down.
What's the next thisng to fail? ABS I expect as I had lots of ABS / EDB failures when we had all that snow. OK now, but I'm expecting it to return when it's wet, proving one of my ABS sensors is faulty. I will get a new one for the O/S/F anyway as the other has already been replaced.
Thanks for the various advice, guys. Much appreciated.
