Help worn camshaft

does anybody know if camshaft wear is common in the 2.0 JTS
and what causes this?

I don't think it is very common.

It has been see on twin spark engines though, normally running the engine low on oil can cause it.

I also heard a rumour that using a metal funnel to top up the oil can cause damage to the cam lobes under the oil filler, but I am not sure I believe it.

Thrashing the engine when cold will cause it too. It will on any car, not just Alfa's.
