Idea 156 boot replacement??

Here's one to get you thinking, I posted a Central Locking fault some months ago, and up to date have had many suggestions as to what the problem is. I have rang just about every "Stealer" and googled till my fingers bled but no luck, so i have done just about every conceivable thing possible. Today a mate of mine (ex alfa owner) looked at the boot lid (which was a brand new replacement from Italy) that had been replaced, he reckons it may not be the correct lid for the model, I.E. I have 2003 model, he thinks it is off a later model, e.g. 2004/2005 which had the final facelift before production stopped. He seems to think the latch and fittings do not marry up, thus car thinks a door is open = Central Locking Problem
I have asked the specialist's on this, and i get a UUUrrrrrrmmmm , would anybody like to comment.

Re: 156 boot replacement??

I had a issue with my SW the central locking would work on the doors but the boot button failed to open the boot - you could hear something trying to work but it failed to unlock. The only way to open it was with the manual lever by the driver's seat. When the back panel was removed it turns out that the solanoid that triggers the lock had brocken off the lock plate (three spot welds had all failed) it was still triggering (which was the sound I could hear) but was unable to operate the lock.

The mechanism was was replaced and now the lock operates off the second button like it should.

Ned at AutoLusso did the work under warrenty, he was supprised by the fault as he had never seen this occur before.

If the solanoid lock unit has been damaged or moved due to your rear end shunt this may be the reason that you are having the problem.

Re: 156 boot replacement??

The tailgate on the facelift 156 is different. It looks like this:
Note the indentations around the tail lights and the different shape of the tail lights.

The pre-facelift tailgate does not have those indentations (see my gallery for images). If your car is pre-facelift and the new tailgate has the indentations, like in the link above, then it's the wrong one.

Re: 156 boot replacement??

Great pic, I did post a reply last night but i cannot see it, Anyway's, looks like i have the correct boot lid for the 2003 but i am concerned about the locking fixings/mechanism they just don't feel right look right or sit on the inside of the lid correctly. Maybe this has contributed to the fault i wonder. Anyhow after the garage who repaired the damage refused to admit the fault, they have informed me today they will send it to Alfa for a proper look!!! I live in hope till then.

Re: 156 boot replacement??

Does anybody have/or take any photo's of the locking mechanism off a 2003 boot lid. The inside of the boot lid fixings i mean by this, and the part on the boot sill where it locks to when closed.

Many Thanks

Re: 156 boot replacement??

The striker plate (the part on the boot sill) was the same part from Sept 2000 (when the electric release was introduced) until production stopped.

There are three different bootlids:
Original until 2002 mini-facelift
2002 mini-facelift
2003 Facelift

The part of the lock in the boot lid was the same for all from the 2002 mini-facelift. A different part was used before the 2002 mini-facelift.

Re: 156 boot replacement??

you will have to search boot lock topics here until you find some pics, you will as i remember a topic about the locks messing up and getting skinny mechanics to squeeze through the ski flap being the only way to correct it again.
