Just thought i would jot down a few lines on trying to fit a new car stereo in my 156 at the weekend.. Just as a background, i have done some simple ICE installs in my previous cars before, so I thought it would be pretty easy to put in an amp and speakers in my bella.. Guess again...
1st up removing the headunit.
ok pretty easy i thought if i had the right keys to remove it with. ha. Halfords had some keys and let me try 2 sets for free (thanks to a friendly member of staff) but no joy. Those poxy pieces of "monkey metal" did nothing to get the H/U out. even managed to bend one key pretty badly, sorry Halfords !
anyway they suggested I go to a car stereo dealers and get a set there. Tried that but the man behind the counter said "we dont sell them for security purposes but I can book it in to remove it (next week)". I said no thanks (thinking I wanted to get the job done sooner !!). anyway while there made a check on what speakers I can fit into the doors.
So - weekend comes and, leaving the head unit for another day tried to rig up my Amp. I wanted to take a feed directly from the battery and searched for a opening to take the wire through the bulkhead toward the glovebox. well i searched......
took glovebox off to try from the other way and looked...
back hurts...- cup of tea - smoke - try looking again... - poke holes with wire etc etc.
So I give up. Pretty anoyed with myself in not doing anything I wanted to do..
I suppose the moral of this story if get someone professional to do it but I didnt want to pay out for something so simple and I have all the gear from my previous installs..
Can anyone help in seeing where there is a way from the engine bay through the bulkhead ?. And does anyone know how to get an Clarion CD headunit off of a 15 month old 156 Sportwagon ?? without hammer....!
