My 2001 156SW has side skirts that I haven't seen on other cars. Fixings underneath are by standard screw fixings but the outside fixing is by Sikaflex type gunge only. Last weekend, I knocked one on a car park kerb and the 8 year old sticky gunge gave up the ghost. Being the New Year weekend, access to proper suppliers was 0% so a trip to Focus yielded a tube of Evo Stick Wet Grab.
Searching these and other forums revealed no magic solvent to remove the sticky gunge. A 1 inch wood chisel proved the best tool to remover this (solvents and heat all failed). Celulose thinners cleaned up the mating surfaces and then a good bead of Wet Grab applied. A couple of screw jacks and a couple of ramps to wedge the sills in place and the job's a good'un after 24 hours. My car is a silver and the white adhesive blends in well. Black or red cars will find this an issue!
