Thanks for your help guys. I'll let you know how I get on. Was just checking Autotrader and the price of cars in general has dropped significantly in UK and with the Euro being pretty strong it might be worth my while considering another buy. As for the cause, according to the experts it was a fuel leak from the return pipe on one of the injectors. Diesel ran down to the manifold and ignited when it go hot. I've googled this scenario but found nothing so I guess this is not a fault with the GT. Also the insurance guy told me that if the fire was proved to be caused be wiring it would be Alfa's fault and therefore would not cover me. Thank God that wasn't the case!
