Re: 156: 2.4JTD Vs 1.8TS I need your experiences!
a well sorted 2.4 10v will match 0-100 vs a V6 2.5, and probably to 120mph where the 5speed diesel will be needing another gear.
a 1.9jtd shouldn't be worlds apart in cornering performance to that of a 4-pot petrol, whilst the jtd is slightly heavier (70kg?) it will ave the torque to pull out of the corner and make up for it there.
The petrolheads would do well to see how the VXR (2.0 turbo petrol) failed to lose the 1.9cdti astra (888 remap to 192bhp) around the track, I think 5th gear covered this.
7,000rpm is great, and the V6's do this ever so well, but 20mpg (having fun when you drive) vs 40mg that a 1.9 will do whilst having fun is enough to persuade one to go diesel.
I often chose the diesel on the drive over the petrol, even chosing the little 147 1.9 8v.
Thats over the 3.2 merc, 4.0 supercharged jag etc.
A tuned diesel on the a/b roads is great fun and you don't have to work it.
