Engine overheating & Selespeed

Last week (Christmas Eve shopping - i must be mad) my 147 Sele was crawling in a queue (in Tesco carpark) for about 20 minutes, during which i shifted to Neutral whenever possible. The engine normally runs about 70 degrees, but increased to 90 during this time.

I didn't think anything about it until i hit normal traffic... and lost gears!! City mode disappeared completely, and using the stick gave me 1st, 2nd and 5th (although not always in that order!) Finally made it onto the open road and, once the engine had cooled down to normal, everything was fine again.

I've checked the fluid levels - all seem fine.

My confusion is - what has the engine temperature got to do with the performance of the Selespeed? This has made me wary of getting stuck in congestion.

Any suggestions?

Re: Engine overheating & Selespeed

Re the temperature, 90 is normal, 70 is too cold.
Shifting to Neutral doesn't take the load off of anything in a Selespeed, it still holds the clutch open while the engine is running. So don't bother.

My best guess on your gear issues would be either just a bad electrical connection to the actuator or the shaft speed sensor in the gearbox failing when warm.
