What exactly this fix .. fixes ?

It fixes the problem when the head unit is powered on CD/CDC mode the Bose subwoofer is not activated until the volume is raised/lowered by 2 units (or muted/unmuted). It's ok if it's powered on in radio mode.
Here's the excerpt from the Blaupunkt service bulletin:
Complaint: If the systems mentioned above are operated in connection with a BOSE
sound system and if the CD or CDC source is selected on the radio, the
Loudness function of the BOSE system may not become active before you
turn up the volume with the volume control.
Attention: customers could complain the following failure:
Unit is muted and volume turns up not before actuating the volume control.
Measures: Upon complaint, please replace the Feature-Prom D870
(P/N.: 8 609 501 685 for EU-/USA und 8 609 501 686 for Japan)."
